Listen With Purpose

The strongest community results from open exchange.

At Conn, we embrace the truth that here learning happens everywhere, not only in the classroom and laboratory, and in the studios and on the fields, but also during concerts and plays, at visiting lectures, over coffee with professors and friends, and in the impassioned debates and discussions that fill every campus space. Because: We are a community dedicated to learning from every voice.

Through this campaign, donors can foster programs and spaces that deepen the engagement and heighten the value of interactions at the core of the Conn student experience. With their gifts, they will shape the breadth of understanding and learning from others that make our graduates vital to communities and businesses everywhere.

The Defy Boundaries campaign will bring to fruition at last a long-reimagined vision of Cro’s purpose as the center for the community spirit that is a Conn beacon. The new design, which can only be realized with donor support, will turn Cro into a dynamic living laboratory that connects students’ classroom learning with real-world experiences. Learning, leadership, mentoring and social experiencesCro will be the nexus of it all.

Donor contributions will allow Conn to expand student activities, clubs and leadership programsto deepen engaged learning while promoting meaningful interactions among all members of our campus community. With this support, Conn will also create new opportunities for students to connect with and contribute to the social, cultural and educational life of New London.

In a nation and world divided, where individuals and communities seem increasingly unable to create common ground on matters of belief, race, gender and citizenship, productive discourse across difference is hard and more essential than ever. Conn fosters an environment of equity and justice by promoting civil discourse through such endeavors as the landmark Agnes Gund ’60 Dialogue Project and the Conversations on Race series. Gifts and endowed funds for these and other related initiatives will boost student coursework on social difference and power and advance this generation’s capacity for empathetic, substantive engagement in a campus community where lifelong habits are formed.

Our students’ increased interest in matters of environment and sustainability mirrors the sharpened eco-awareness that is shaping their generation and global priorities. Through their gifts, donors to this campaign can help endow staff positions that advance sustainability efforts and planning across campus; drive new and better ways to integrate sustainability into our curriculum, international programs and community outreach; and protect and make best use of our environmental assetsfrom our campus arboretum to the Thames to the Long Island Sound.

It is easy to take for granted the lasting impact that shared experiences over meals and in residence halls can have on students. Through this campaign, donors can help develop the fullness of residential and dining engagement, ensuring that living and learning on campus both reflect our commitment to deep dialogue and alertness to diverse ideas and the imperatives of cross-cultural perspectives,  sustainability and social justice.
